Here we will teach you how to work with Sucragels to create formulas that are both effective and aesthetically pleasing. Learn about the uses of Sucragels in beauty products, as well as tips on how to optimise your formulating process.

Understand the Benefits of Sucragel Formulation.

Sucragels are natural oil thickening agents and can be used for cold process emulsifying too providing many benefits when used in beauty product formulation. They possess excellent emulsifying and stabilising properties, allowing you to create formulations that will stand the test of time. Furthermore, they are highly moisturising and versatile in their applications. With these benefits in mind, utilising Sucragels to formulate sophisticated beauty products will give your brand an edge and allow you to stand out from the competition.

Determine how you want to use your Sucragel.

Before diving into your beauty product formulation, it is important to consider which type of product you want to achieve. Sucragels can be used purely to create a thick oily gel or they can provide the emulsification in a cold process lotion or creamy formula. Either way, the first step to the formulation technique is the same and requires patience in order to get this right, but we promise it will be worth it for the end result!

Get Familiar with Formulating with Sucragels.

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced in formulating beauty products, it is essential to understand the nuances of Sucragels. Creating formulations with Sucragels requires careful addition of your blended oils into the sucragel at a very slow pace. Start by stirring the sucragel with the stirrer fully submerged to prevent air bubbles from getting in, then using a pipette, slowly add your blended oils into the sucragel, ensuring that each addition is fully mixed in before adding the next pipette of oil. Once all of your oils are added, you should have a beautiful thick transparent oily gel.

What Products can be Achieved

When pairing Sucragels with other ingredients, it’s important to choose botanical extracts and additives that aid performance. Natural and organic Botanicals can provide beneficial regenerative and restructuring properties for hair and skin. Additives such as Organic Rosemary can be added in to provide antioxidant activity for protection of the skin, pigments can be blended and added for a lip tint and surfactants such as sodium cocoyl isethionate powder provide a gentle foaming cleanser. You can even suspend particles such as jojoba beads which makes a fantastic cleansing scrub! Just directly add these ingredients to the oily gel that you have created.

Alternatively, add a water phase to your oily gel with stirring to create a creamy white emulsion. If you decide to make an emulsion, be aware that the thick oil will lose its texture so be sure to add additional thickeners such as xanthan gum to the water phase to increase its overall viscosity. You will also need to preserve this system once you add water.
